Premiere Pro CS6 – How to Write to an Audio Track

Today’s tutorial is NLE specific for Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.

It’s a simple tip that walks you through how to write to an audio track to control the volume of the track over the course of the timeline. Check it out.

Recap

To write to an audio track, follow these steps.

1. Identify which Audio track in the timeline your music track is on.
2. Go to the ‘Audio Mixer’ window and find that corresponding track.
3. Select the drop down menu with the default as ‘read’, right about the volume control slider. Change it to ‘write’.
4. Go to your timeline. To start writing to a track, click the ‘spacebar’ and change the volume at the appropriate time(s). Click the ‘spacebar’ again, to stop writing. The drop down menu above the volume control slider should automatically switch back to ‘Touch’ once you are finished recording.

Please remember, that the track only records what you play. So if you change the volume from its original point on the track, you must play it all the way through for that to properly write. Otherwise, wherever you stop recording, that track will abruptly cut back to its original volume.
